Drupal 7 is end of life. From November support will end for websites running on this aging version of the popular platform. E-gas elected to upgrade to Drupal 9 to avoid security risks and ensure continuity. We worked hard to complete the migration ahead of the deadline.

Drupal 7 is dead, long live Drupal 9

The pandemic has delayed its departure, but Drupal 7 is set for retirement at the end of November. From then on, websites built in the obsolete version of the open source CMS will no longer be supported. That makes it a risky bet. Websites in Drupal 7 will be vulnerable to hackers who are looking to steal user data. That’s why we advised E-gas to migrate to Drupal 9.

E-gas website remains GDPR-compliant

Drupal 9 is the most recent version of the CMS platform (though Drupal 10 is set for release in June). Unlike Drupal 7, 9 is supported by the whole Drupal community. That means that security leaks are ruled out and user privacy is protected – essential in this GDPR world of ours. That alone was enough for E-gas to upgrade.

Touchpoint-based UX structure

The flexible, user-friendly character of Drupal 9 was a boon for E-gas. The propane gas supplier had long had a desire to raise its profile among various target groups. So based on a round of wireframing, we got to work on restructuring the site. The result is clear for all to see. A website that appeals to all comers – consumers but also architects, fitters and other business customers find content tailored to them. Digital touchpoints in a UX design to boost relations with the target groups. E-gas can face the future with confidence.

Other benefits of a Drupal 9 upgrade?

Migration to Drupal 9 demands a lot of technical coding by our developers. But once the development phase has been completed, the website performs better and is more stable than ever. And, above all, the content can be structured, managed and integrated much more easily. Not least thanks to the convenient WYSIWYG modules.
